Congratulations on the book, will it be available online? Hope all's well in your world.

See you're still doing your thing! I was a regular at your shows in San Francisco almost a decade ago. Don't know what prompted me to look you up today--I'm married now, so don't worry I'm not stalking you. Someone broke into my apartment years ago and stole all my CD's including the few I had of you with the Natural Blues. I was pretty bitter about those in particular being stolen since they probably could never be replaced. Listening to your newest now. Take care!

Hi Chris, i was present at your gig in the Merchants Inn in little old Rugby Town, England. Just thought i'd say i was duly blown away with your music and guitarmanship. I now own all your records available through itunes and wish you all the best for any future endeavours. I'll be keeping tabs on where your playing and what your releasing, if you ever come back to good old blighty and play in the midlands feel free to give me a shout if you need food and shelter.

Hey Preach,
You where here in '98.
moulinblues.nl/festival/2007/lineup

As I have written before: talented people as yaself are travellers, explorers on a journey that knows no straight line, only crossroads and unexpected choices to make. You are doing just that and doing the right thing. Follow your heart. Maybe it's time for a big jump again. (??)

Take care and enjoy your adventures. Thanx for writing back at me last time.

Preacher Boy RULES! I'm going to miss you this Winter. As I left our Summer residency I popped in your new album and drove away realizing that you had given me the soundtrack to end all soundtracks! Now when I listen to it I see all of us on the docks, getting our last laughs in for the Summer. Stay safe and see you in a year!

So lonesome for your company I came across a copy of Crow, put it in, and you were there. The music business is full of thieves, liars, and whores. Something must come out of those who stay true to themselves. Winston Churchill said "Never, Never, Never give up." And then he had a drink. I will drink a hearty red for you tonight my old friend. God I miss screaming out "Times have been hard" in a drunken stupor.

hiya steve,

thanks fer the nice note. believe you me, i'd love to. but at this
point...well, as i said. baby steps. there's a lot of logistics to gettin'

record out, i have no record label, i have no management, i have no
booking agency, etc etc etc. but we'll see, we'll see. i'll certainly keep
ya posted. mainly, thanks fer the kind words...

"Demanding to be next" is one of the most wonderful albums I have (even my 8 & 10 year old kids love it and they usually ask for my CDs to be taken off the car stereo!!!). Don't give it up. Would love to see you play in the UK again. Shine on.

January 30, 2005

Last I saw Danny Uzilevsky at Jay's Sinatra gig at Club Deluxe, he suggested I google Preacher Boy to see what you are up to these days.

I've lost one or two in good company and am now on a lonely winning streak myself--
but I had been wondering what was new with you.

I was shocked by the two blog entries under the /news link. Dude, you are a professional musician. Like Big Bones--
you aren't this or that and also a harmonica player--
dude, you are a musician.

I've written a lot. Freakesh amounts, which is become less and less these days--or more and more--depending upon how you look at it.

I remember Campilongo and Immergluck and Escobar and Ralph and later Danny and Big Bones. I danced at the Starry Plough like Tiger. And--
you told me you were Christopher Robin.
A lot happens at your shows.

In Charlottesville, Virginia, in January 1995, I flipped to a copy of the Preacher Boy and the Natural Blues Bling Pig debut. I didn't have the $12.00. I thought of stealing it, but have the most profound revulsion to hard time. I resolved to work hard enough to afford to order from catalog to Williamsburg, Virginia. I talked it over with the old lady. She contributed nothing to the conversation, but I resolved to order it through the local, independent record store to start a stir. I bargained: if you order two of these, I'll buy one. I guess I did that for Blind Pig and not so much Preacher Boy. When I got back to San Francisco in '97, you were on your way to bigger and better.

And all of that has happened.

The Drive Goes On. Listened to that on two of my mix tapes on the road back to the Pacific from the South. 16 hour stretches and a few weeks rest. Night after night--I'm not so sure I was ever young enough for that.

The Drive Goes On. Finally got into the community in San Francisco. After years of drinking. Started counseling those at risk for a bad time. Started law school. Started representing basic needs and rights. Singing the good song you've been singing.

I've been writing for years. Never thought of it as poetry until I got runover by the end isle display at Citylights, thrusting Raymond Carver's "All of Us." Honest, concise, pertinent. Craft?

School is for elites. Your years as a successful professional musician and traveler are equivalent under the EEOC.

Write. Sing. Play. Meet new kids at jams. Publish poems here and there. It's not where.

It's not where.

Hello from Sheffield England -

I still!! have your Crow poster from way back when displayed on my kitchen wall...You played the most amazing (packed-out!)show at the legendary Boardwalk many years ago - which I am happy to say is still going strong...Today, for some reason?? I decided to check out your website....excellent storytelling but very very sorry to hear you left the music arena...but maybe you can find your creative fulfillment in your poetry?? I certainly hope so.... somehow I had a "smiley" thought and idea that you might me supporting people like the wonderful Bonnie Raitt, John Prine and similar folk.....hey ho!

Loved the shots of your American road travels......I have also been there done that - bit of a dreamer me!.....it really is a beautiful world don't you think?

Anyhows....take really good care of yourself and maybe?? one day we'll see you back in Jolly Olde England - in what ever "form" you take??

Yo Ho Preach'
I've just read your news to say that you're not playing anymore. I just can't believe it !!!! WHY ? I really, really look forward to buying your albums nad have got them all ! We stumbled across you in Monty's Bar in Harrogate North Yorkshire UK - do you remember it ? We were bowled over by the sound you all achieved and have been a major fan since. We also saw you at Po Na Na in Harrogate and at The Duchess in Leeds - even got your autograph there, which your colleagues thought was very cheesy, but I was delighted and have still got it. Never did figure out what Zwwwwwwweeeeeeeee ment, but there you go.
Hey, in one of your songs, do you sing " and the tourist went to Harrogate " ? that's what it sounds like anyway.
Well, gigs are no good in Harrogate these days - plus we've got 2 small children now and don't stay out too late anymore ! Do you fancy doing a gig at "The Ripley Blues Club" next time you're over in the UK - it's great and just down the road from Harrogate.....see you there ?!
Anyway - hope the poetry is going well, and REALLY hope you start doing your music again.
Later

I was with Peter Hanning and Ben Defenderfer last night, which I'm sure is what brought on the dream about you, and the hunt to track you down. So proud and excited for you. Twyla Bishop - Tuesday, September 21st, 2004 11:22 AM EDT
Hello, my name is Twyla Bishop and currently I am working with another young lady who loves to put on Gospel Steps Shows in the maryland area. Last year 2002 we put on a "Gospel Live Explosion" inviting children and teens from across Maryland and Virginia to come together and lift of the name if Jesus threw step. It was a success last year, we could not stop. WE are putting on one this year this November. Speaking with the Director I told her we need a "Bigger" one. Well, I got so excited and started working on the one for next year. We will be working with other churches to help partner with us to break tradition in the Methodist Church. We fellowship with a Methodist Church and we see the body hungering for more. Preacher Boy I want to know if your schedule allows you to please be our "Master of Seremony" for next year's explosion. So far we have a response from "Salt" Chery Wray to be apart of this movement. Please respond to me by email or phone call 240-476-3539 if your schedule allows. The date we are looking at is November 5th 2005.
Peace and blessings.
You are doing an excellent job for the body.

Hey Preach,
We saw you at Villa Montalvo, opening for Charlie. We bought your CD, have been listening to and enjoying it alot.

Keep thinking about the story you told about the woman who came up to you from the Polish neighborhood in NY, and how she heard your song lyric as, "the smell of a young polish man." Made me think of a book you might want to check out. It's titled, "Scuse me while I kiss this guy", the author is Gavin Edwards. It's a collection of lines people THINK they heard in pop songs from the 1960s to 1990s. It gives the wrong and right lyrics. Might be worth a look, it's pretty entertaining...

We look forward to seeing you again, next time you come through our area,
Fran & Jack

I've just been reading about National Guitars in Bill Wyman's Blues Odyssey so it was a real pleasure to hear one live in the hand of a virtuoso. We're looking forward to the next time you're in town, in the meantime we'll be enjoying the CD.

Looking forward to next week's show in Somerville!

Does anyone know if there will be pre-Waiting albums available? I've only been able to find a sad copy of Gutters and Pews in Boston, so have had to use iTunes for most of the rest, except they don't have Devil's Buttermilk!

good question. technically, redeye will be the distributor, though for the UK, they sub-contract. the big issue at this point however, is a tour. we're still working on finding an overseas agent to put together a trip, at that point, we'll arrange for distribution of the album. so for now, fingers crossed! unless of course you've got some ideas...:)

Steve - Wednesday, March 24th, 2004 11:47 AM EST
Hi Chris, who's the album being distributed by in the uk?

Just wanted to send a quick note, I saw you at Two Boots the other nite, loved your music, as I mentioned then it was a nice suprise as me and my crew didn't know who was playing. I am moving to Boston, pleased to see you've got upcoming gigs in the Beantown area, I will check them out and bring friends. Although you may have already played/looked it this area, fyi: Salem Mass has a good music scene, my friends blues band plays quite a bit in that area. You may want to check it out... looking forward to getting your cd... K
